Archives of Extinction

Student project, not affiliated with Archives of Extinction

Overview

The film follows scientists who attempt to recreate extinct species using advanced biotechnology by combining fragments of DNA from different sources. As these creatures are brought into controlled environments, they appear physically complete but behave in ways that feel incomplete or unnatural. Over time, the project reveals ethical concerns about whether these beings are truly alive or simply engineered replicas, leading to a deeper realization that recreating appearance does not equal restoring life.

Concept

The concept explores humanity’s effort to reverse extinction through technological intervention, focusing on the tension between revival and irreversible loss. It questions whether DNA reconstruction can genuinely bring a species back or only produce something that resembles it. At its core, the idea suggests that life cannot be fully recovered through science alone, since it also depends on context, evolution, and environment.
